Stoneberry - Pre-approved credit that wasn't
I received a catalog from Stoneberry. It stated clearly that I was pre-approved for $100.00 in credit for purchases with this company. It further stated that my "information" had been checked and that I met the criteria for this credit.
Well low and behold I ordered a few items because it again said that I was already approved. Not so fast! They ran a credit check on me which I would never have ordered anything because I don't need a negative report on my credit report. They also sent me a letter saying that I must pay 25% down on my order before it would be accepted.
Liars, ***'s, mis-representing themselves to folks who do not have great credit and would appreciate having an opportunity to improve their credit by having a legitimate offer by a legitimate company.
Lesson learned.
Reason of review: Order processing issue.
Stoneberry Cons: Misleading, Do not be mislead throw the catalog away.

Stoneberry account doesn't improve your credit score. I just got off the phone with them and was told that they do not report positive payment history to any of the major credit bureaus.
However, they do a " hard" credit pull to open the account, which can drop your credit score 3-10 points for awhile. I would try to establish an account with Fingerhut instead. They are fairly liberal with poor to fair credit scores. They DO report to the bureaus, and can really help build your credit score.
They also give generous credit limit increases occasionally. They are funded by Webank.
Same thing here and my credit isn't even all that bad
If you can't come up with a $25 down payment, you shouldn't be catalog shopping at all!
I DONT THINK A SMALL DOWN PAYMENT IS WRONG IT SHOWS YOU ARE ABLE TO MAKE A PAYMENT I ALSO BOUGHT FROM GINNYS TRYING TO REBUILD MY CREDIT AND I WAS APPROVED PAID MY 25.00 GOT MY PRODUCT SAME WEEK
Same here as well.Wants a down payment what a joke.
same here went thru the same *** with them!
I also got a catalog from Stoneberry saying I had been pre-approved. I have never heard of this company so I just dismissed it.
Then again I thought hmm, maybe I will go ahead and order a few items.
After reading that this is false and one is not pre-approved so they have to run a credit check, no way am I going there. This company as others should be reported to the Better Business Bureaus and the Consumer Credit at your State's Attorney General's Office.
Why should they be reported to BBB or AG's office ? Pulling a credit report is a standard business practice for pre-approved accounts, and perfectly legal.
Every bank in the country does it for pre-approved Visa and Mastercard offers, because your history can change between the time they qualify you for the offer and the time you accept it .
It says so in Stoneberry's the fine print ( always read it. ) And if you call and ask them, they will say so.
they did the very same thing to me.
